If you take depakote 500mg EC for a very mild seizure disorder and take 1 every other day then stop for 4 days is it possible to have a seizure or is it still in your system enough to control it?

I hope you didn't decide to taper off the medication without medical supervision. There may or may not be enought med left in your system to control a seizure, but probably not. If you're at risk for seizure you shouldn't be discontinuing your seizure med :-)

Can antibiotics cause a grand mal seizure?

Short answer- Yes, in general antibiotics may cause a grand mal seizure. Long answer- In any specific case, maybe. People who are sick and getting antibiotics are more likely to have a seizure from the underlying illness, and potentially the associated fever. There is a concept of a seizure threshold. Think of the brain like a pot of water, and a seizure like boiling. Anything that raises the temperature (metaphorically) increases the chances of having a seizure. These can include generally being sick, a high fever, electrolyte abnormalities, genetic propensity, and certain medications. Also medications can interfere with the metabolism of seizure medications and in some people the infection involves the brain, and can cause seizures. Some antibiotics (but not all) are known to lower the seizure threshold, and have a slight increase in the number of seizures, usually a few patients in every thousand treated. Justin Montanye, MD

75 milligrams is how many gram?

You must use conversion factors to determine the answer. Since we have milligrams and want to convert to grams we know that there are 1000mg for every g. So the problem becomes: 75mg * 1g/1000mg = 0.075 grams

Can depakote cause hepatitis?

well, if you're like me then you really don't have a choice. I started having seizures in 2001 at the age of 15 and went through so many different medications. Of course Depakote was the only medication strong enough to "control" my seizures or decrease the number I was having daily and weekly anyways; however, Depakote is valporic acid which is hard for your liver to break down so that is why you have to have liver function tests done every so often. I have mine done every 3 months when I go to get my refills.

What happen if you have 2 episodes of seizures?

Different people will have different experiences when having a seizure. There are many kinds of seizures, so every seizure is different. So a person could just be a bit dazed, like in a day dream for a short time if it was a mild seizure. They could be completely unconscious and maybe shaking for more serious ones. They may start talking to themselves or repeating themselves. These are just a few of the things that can happen. After a while people will come back to normal. They may be fine or they may have a headache or feel drowsy. This will depend on the type and severity of seizure they have had.

How should someone come down on depakote?

Slowly, definitely. Go down a pill every 5 days or so.

Can mold cause a child to have seizures if they never had one a day into theyre life?

There is evidence to suggest that mold can cause seizures, but there are a huge range of things that can cause a seizure, so anyone who has had their first seizures would need to be seen by a doctor to try to work out what caused their seizures.

Whatconditions in the classroom could potenially cause a seizure?

That is a very difficult question to answer. Epilepsy has a wide range of causes, so there is no one thing that would cause a seizure in every person that has epilepsy. For example, you will often hear of flashing lights causing seizures. This is only for about 3% to 5% of people who have epilepsy. So for the vast majority of people who get seizures, flashing lights will not trigger one and have no effect on them. If there were flashing lights in a classroom and there was a person there who has epilepsy and their seizures were caused by flashing lights, then it is a condition in a classroom that could cause them. So it is more a case of the individual rather than the physical conditions of where they are that will determine if they have a seizure. So someone whose seizures are caused by something like stress won't be affected by physical conditions.

How can you die of a seizure?

Mortality rates are considerably higher in people with epilepsy than would be expected in a healthy population. The causes of death include seizures which evolve into status epilepticus, a continuous state of seizure that can be fatal; Seizures can induce a semi-conscious state, making a person vulnerable in daily routines such as taking baths or walking down stairs; Suicide is another risk factor. People with epilepsy who suffer from depression are five times more likely to commit suicide than the overall population. A mystery in epilepsy deaths called sudden unexplained death (SUDEP), which is often listed as an official cause of death, accounts for 7-17% of deaths among the general population with epilepsy, twenty-five times higher than normal in the case of Temporal lobe epilepsy and perhaps fifty percent higher among patients with refractory epilepsy. The seriousness of this disorder which affects 50 million people world wide does not get the attention it deserves. This potentially deadly disorder affects more people than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's disease combined. Epilepsy is on the rise because of the aging population. People over the age of 65 have a significant increased risk of developing epilepsy. Epilepsy is twice as common as Autism and more people die from epilepsy related causes each year than from AIDS.

Can seizures be with everyone?

It is possible for anyone to have a seizure. Most people who do have a seizure will only have one. People with recurring seizures are said to have epilepsy. That is about one in every two hundred people or half of one per cent of the world's population. (0.5%)
