Yes, but it is not recommended because it could cause damage to a one way diodes in the alternators internal voltage regulator. Again don't do it.

That method causes voltage spikes which can also damage the computers on any late model car.

2000 Kia Sephia replaced battery alternator still not charging any suggestions?

have the alternator checked. AnswerYou can check the alternator yourself with a multi-meter/ voltmeter. Start your car and rev to about 1500 rpm, touch the meter positive lead to the b-lead on the alternator, and the meter negative lead to the alternator case, or any good ground. You should read 13 to 14 volts, anything less than about 12.5v, and you've probably got a bad set of diodes and need a new alternator.

How are alternators linked to the cars battery?

The output lead from your alternator is bolted to the positive lead of the battery at the starter solenoid. The grounds are both to the vehicle body or, in some cars, the ground from the battery is grounded on the alternator bracket.

How do you replace alternator on 2001 Ford Taurus?

It depends on which engine is in the vehicle. There are 2 types, the Vulcan and the Duratec. The Vulcan's alternator is located at the top of the engine on the passenger side. The Duratec's is located under the engine in the passenger side. It helps to also rent a Belt Tensioner Tool to unload the belt. It will also help to remove the Dust covers on the inside of the "wheel well" since you will need to get through this area to get to the stupidly designed placement of the bolts. 1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE FROM THE BATTERY FIRST 2. Disconnect the Positive from the battery. 3. Locate your alternator. 4. Unload the belt with the belt tensioner and remove the belt from the alternator pulley. 5. Locate the Alternator Positive Charge Lead 6. Remove the black Dust cap "which is probably rotted away and will become useless" and use a 11MM Socket to remove the lead. (This is only for the ford factory alternator. Sizes may vary) And remove the remote lead. 7. Unbolt the alternator from the vehicle, typically there are 4 bolts holding the alternator in place. (1- 18MM long socket, 1- 13MM, 2- 8MM) "you will need to have the front end on jack stands because a turning of the steering wheel is definitely needed to remove the alternator 2 turns to the left should do. 8. Bolt the new alternator into place. 9. Attach the Alternator Positive Charge Lead and the Remote Lead 10. Unload the tensioner and replace the belt on the alternator pulley 11. Reconnect the positive lead to the battery 12. Reconnect the negative lead to the battery (IN THIS ORDER!!!!) 13. Start the vehicle and check for any signs of malfunction. Happy motoring!

How do you find alternator or battery is bad or not?

Sometimes, with the vehicle running, you can remove the positive lead from the battery and the vehicle with either keep running or stop. If it stops that can mean the alternator is bad. This is not 100% accurate, depending on the type vehicle, etc.

How do you jumpstart a 2006 325i?

The correct way to jumpstart a 2006 BMW 325i is to connect the positive lead to the positive terminals on each vehicle. The negative leads are then attached to a strong ground like the alternator bracket.

How do you tell when alternator is bad on ford?

the same way you test any alternator. use a volt meter and put one lead on the positive and one on the negative of the battery and see if the volts are more than 13volts. if it is above 13 it is charging

Can you hook up a new regulator to an alternator without actually attaching it to the alternator?

Voltage regulators are often built into the alternators now, this wasn't always the case. Older vehicles had separate voltage regulators mounted on firewalls or the side of the engine compartment, wired in between from the alternator to the battery. The positive lead now goes directly to the battery from the alternator/regulator.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1996 Buick Regal?

Best to get a shop manual for this operation, if you have not replaced it before. Usually there is an "Idler Pulley" on many late model cars that is "spring loaded". You "Bias" this pulley (usually with a socket wrench) so that the serpentine belt has enough slack in it so you can remove it. Then you disconnect the Positive Battery cable, disconnect the "Field Wire" harness and Positive battery lead from the alternator, unbolt and remove the alternator. Reverse procedure to install new alternator. TommyTrouble
