Yes, CPR and defribrillation will work on someone with a mechanical mitral valve.
Your mechanical valve is made of surgical steel. Magnets are attracted to steel.
Patients who have had a valve replaced must take an anticoagulant medication, usually warfarin (Coumadin), in order to minimize the possibility of a clot forming on the prosthetic valve.
Having a mechanical mitral valve is considered a condition affecting the heart, but it is not a primary heart condition. Rather, it is a treatment for a different underlying heart condition, such as mitral valve disease or regurgitation. The mechanical valve is a prosthetic device used to replace a malfunctioning or damaged natural mitral valve.
Yes you can perform CPR on a person with an artificial heart valve. There is no difference on the CPR procedure with an artificial valve.
You may need to take a blood thinning medication, such as warfarin (Coumadin), if you had an artificial valve replacement. Talk to your surgeon about the current recommendations for your situation.
You must take anticoagulants (blood-thinners, i.e. warafin & coumadin) because the valve, although it may be accepted by the body, is an mechanical device and your blood at it's regular thickness can attach to the valve and produce blood clots. Those blood clots can dislodge (break free) and cause stroke, aneurysm or death. Therefore it is important to keep the blood thin enough to be productive but not clot. It is also important to keep your doctor and lab appointments to monitor your blood because if your blood is too thin it can cause you not to clot at all (hemophiliac) and you can bleed out from a simple cut. I hope this is helpful.
The are available in multiple sizes depending on size of patient. My aortic valve is 29mm.

"As a registered nurse, I am aware there are two common types of aortic valves used for replacement. There are mechanical valves and valves from animals. The decision needs to be made with your doctor as with each there are positives and negatives. Choice on which valve will be determined by case to case."
A dual check valve is similar to a double check valve in that it is a mechanical backflow preventer consisting of two independently acting, spring-loaded check valve.
