First clean the inside of the throttle body with an aproved cleaner safe for coated intakes. You will find it to be very gummy and sticky. Use an old tooth brush to scrub the back and front of the butterfly. Second, run two treatments of the fuel system cleaner TECHRON made buy Chevron Chemical. Techron is by far the must effective fuel injector cleaner on the market, it is sold at any auto part store.
The starter
My mechanic told me that 3M makes the best that he has used that it will not dissolve the clearcoat. ALSO he had told that on the '97's up NOT to use the Berryman ChemTool spray and injector cleaner amongst some of the other brands like you buy at Wal-Mart that contain xylene and tuolene, that it will dissolve the clear coat inside of the throttle body. I had done this on my '01 and now it idles too high because the clearcoat had dissolved. SO only choice I had without spending a lot for a repair bill was for my mechanic to set the base idle (which he really preferred not to, but he did it anyway for I'm one of his biggest customers), so now it idles a little too slow @ about 550- 600 RPM, when it should be idling around 850-900 RPM.
