Unfortunately, a GPS is a receiver only. It locates its position on the surface of the earth by determining its distance from a series of satellites. It does not transmit any information back to the satellites, which would be necessary for a satellite to locate the GPS.

Mine was doing the same thing, and it turned out one of the plugs was not firing, which turned to be not the plug but the coil for that side (Briggs & Stratton 18hp on an MTD 1650 lawn tractor)
Did you get a TITLE to the "stolen" car? If not, the you sorta assumed the risks. Was it actually stolen at the time of sale or just not removed from the list after being recovered?
