You do need other shots for all the other worm problems. It sounds terrible, but a must, and I get it for my pets all the time. This also includes cats. Our vet gives us heartworm pills for our dog that also kill a long list of other parasites. In our case, we'd be over-medicating the dog if we gave him more medicine. It's fairly economical too. Please take a few minutes and ask any vet. I worm my dogs with a pill that takes care of every king of parisite: heart worm, round worm, tapeword, etc. Just call a vet, they won't bite. ;) It also depends on the medication you give your Dog. A product like Heartgard Plus protects your dog from heartworms, hookworms and roundworms, where as Interceptor protects your dog from all of the above and whipworms. Please consult your vet for more information, and there are plenty of reliable sources online you can buy these medications at. == == Using a cheap source of Heartgard Plus is the best way to prevent the roundworms and hookworms. As previously stated some of the external topical solutions will even provide additional cover but may be a little more costly.

A chewable tablet is probably the easiest solution and Heartgard Plus is the most popular choice. Don't discount generics thoughas they are half the price.
