First of all, the engagement ring is considered a gift and he has no right to ask for it back. Secondly, if the night out with the girls was innocent, you would be right to run from him.
This is not what good marriages are made of! If you didn't break a date with him (you should have at least told him you were going out) and if he was still angry about it this is not good behavior. These are the start of control issues between the two of you and you will be the one acting like the trained seal.
Once you slip that engagement ring on your finger, then it's time both learned responsibilities. It would be nice if each of you told the other what their plans were if it didn't include each other. It's just respect and not meant as anything else.
It also depends what type of girls you are hanging around with and if they lead you astray. Perhaps they are free-flying ladies having a good time. Once you're engaged, you're taken!
If you told him about going out and just went and had a good time and there was nothing more to it, then he has no right to order you as to where you can and can't go. If he is doing this, then he has been doing this throughout your relationship already and it's time to move on. Don't get stuck with a controlling or jealous person because it more often than not will come back and bitecha!
Give it back and consider yourself lucky you didn't marry him. He did you a favor girl... He's a control freak.
