Generally speaking, the term of aggressive imperialism, can be defined as using armed conflict to gain territory or sphere's of influence in an underdeveloped nation. Aggression is used as the population of the area targeted for imperialism, has resisted the aggressor.

It depends on what you mean by "imperialism." The United States is a super-power and it certainly has tried to be a major player in world affairs, often imposing its views on other countries. It is not the only nation to have done this. President Obama believes the United States should continue being an important player on the world stage, but he does not favor invading other countries or forcing them to do things the way Americans do them.
