My horse keeps hurting herself and and when I ride her she doesn't listen and on the trail rides tries to turn back and run to my barn. My horse also tries to kick horses behind her when I ride her or walk her and pins her ears back too and it makes it hard to train her, shes just around five and six years old and shes a Standardbred Ex-harness racer what should I do? You should buy a lunge whip, and start from scratch. Groom her, and if she misbehaves, give her a tap on the shoulder. Lunge her, and take her in a round pen. Then, get her tacked up, and walk her by hand on the trail. If she tries to turn around, give her a smack on the shoulder.
i honestly dont think you can do anything about a horse being agressive and you say she keeps hurting herself? what does she do to hurt herself? i think i know that an agressive horse cannot be changed as it may be the horses personality. i have lots of aggresive horses living at my yard and their owners just have to put up with it because they love them!
Hey!
When buying a horse there is a lot of things that you are going to want to ask. When you go, if you are not an experienced horse person, bring along someone who is, like a stable owner or riding instructor.
Also make sure that if you dont bring along your own vet, make sure that you make an time when a trusted vet can check out the horse, not a vet that the owner has hired. Sometimes owners will hire a vet to lie about the horses physical condition.
Also check around and see if anyone you know has bought a horse from them or knows these people in the horse community. That helps when dealing with them.
Some questions to ask when buying a horse would be :
Anyways, those are just some questions... I hope those help.. Also, you always want to ride the horse before you buy it. Also try catching it from the field, tacking it up, spending time with it, untacking it before you buy it to see what he/she is like.
Also, if you are lucky you should try a trial run. Try taking the horse for a month and see if you love owning him, any questions that you had forgotten to ask should be answered. Then, if you dont click, you can take him back !
Hope I helped !! :D Enjoy your new horse !!

you should probably bring a vet with you so they can look at te horse's disposition, teeth, check it;s heartbeat, etc.. however, it would be important to ask about the horse's temperament, quirks, what disciplines it's trained in, what it spooks at, (flags, trees, whatever) and any problems it may have.
