Because it's every man's right to a gun, according to the constitution. However, many people are too ignorant to realise that this was written in the constitution because, at the time, the USA was only just free from Britain so if the English came back an army could be mobilised quickly, if everyone had a gun. This though, was over 200 years ago and doesn't apply to now. People don't want to get rid of guns just because they find them fun in spite of the fact that these guns are being used to commit mass murders all the time.

Another factor in guns not being banned is that the gun companies in the US are extremely powerful so whenever a new investigation into the current gun laws is begun, a discreet donation is made to the investigators - in other words, the gun companies are paying to keep their guns legal.
