In the Southern Hemisphere, it never snows on Christmas Day since it is summer time. In the northern hemisphere near the equator, it is too warm. Christmas is also only at the start of winter in the northern hemisphere which is why you get more snowfall throughout January and February. as well it never snows because it only snows every time a leap year has come.

Because Australia leis in the southern hemisphere. If a place lies in the southern hemisphere it is summer at Christmas time and unless you are on the top of a very high mountain you are unlikely to find temperatures cold enough for snow to form.

Further information:

It has snowed at Christmas in Australia. 2006 was one such year, when unusual weather conditions and icy blasts from the Southern Ocean brought a white Chritsmas to Tasmania and Mt Buller in Victoria.
