You actually do not have a set period of time to return a vehicle purchase. There is no law that requires a dealership to take a vehicle back once purchased unless the vehicle is faulty.
You need the title to be in whatever state you registered the vehicle in.
In most states, you can trade in the vehicle without it being registered. However, you do need a TITLE to prove that you own the vehicle.
