There are some high school students who excel in specific academic areas and outclass what a high school can offer. Thus, there are some colleges (most prevalent are the community colleges), that offer these students access to some college coursework through a special program. Some schools refer to these programs as bridge programs. In most cases, the high school student must be a junior or senior, have a least a B average, and have the recommendation of a high school counselor and parental permission. As such, I believe it would be beneficial for these students who wish to enhance their existing skills, as long as it does not interfere with their high school program and activities.

That is up to the college providing instruction. There are many schools that provide opportunities to take college classes while still in high school. As long as the high school and college work together it can be a great experience! I did it when I was in high school and know several students around my area that do it now.
As long as your high school in North Carolina is a state accredited school, there will not be an issue and all your credits will transfer.
