Cursed Ring is already useful, and no, it doesn't transform into another item.
Cursed Ring comes with some hefty stat decreases, but what it does is turn the character's elemental resistances into absorbance. A character initially resistant to fire, will now be healed by it.
It is especially good when combined with Adamant Armor, because Adamant Armor's bonuses counteract all the penalties from the ring.
