In Final Fantasy X-2 why does Tidus look different?

In that case, I'd like to point out that the answer to your question is part of the plotline and by telling you why, I will ruin the opportunity for you to play the game and find out for yourself.

The person that you have probably seen is actually a man called Shuyin. Like Tidus, he is a famous blitzball player from Zanarkand, but unlike Tidus, he was actually real. As in, he actually existed 1000 years ago and wasn't a dream of the fayth.

During the war between Zanarkand and Bevelle, he was distraught over his lover Lenne, who at the time was a famous songstress and summoner. Due to her summoning abilities she was sent to the front lines of battle where she would likely die. In an attempt to save her, Shuyin infiltrated Bevelle alone to activate their giant machina known as Vegnagun- a weapon so powerful it could not distinguish friend from foe and had to be locked away.

Despite its indiscriminate destructive power, he was desperate to end the war and save his lover. Before he had the chance to activate it, however, he was stopped by Lenne, who had apparently followed him. They embrace. Bevelle guards discover them and they are shot dead.

After this, Shuyin (either dead or dying) is dumped in a cave called the Den of Woe (it's close by the beach where operation Mi'hen took place), where his anguished and tormented soul festered for 1000 years. Anybody who entered the cave went mad with his dispair. 1000 years after his death, in modern day Spira, he plans to re-activate Vegnagun and destroy Spira entirely as revenge.

Well, there you go. That certainly was a mouthful.

And if you're wondering, the spirit of Lenne was infused in her songstress outfit, which Yuna comes to own. It occasionally acts up and gives Yuna Lenne's emotions.
