In Massachusetts does the trooper have to have you sign the citation for it to become binding or is no signature required on their citations?
No, if you refuse to sign it the trooper may decide to just take
you to jail. When/if you sign, you are just promising to appear in
court. If you don't sign and don't appear in court the judge can
issue a bench warrant and have you arrested. It's up to you whether
you appear, but if you don't things tend to be a lot worse. Just
pay for the ticket and don't try to play games. If you were driving
wrong, you know it already. Just be responsible for a change and
acknowledge your actions.
