In an 1988 Acura Legend why when you turn the headlights on the rear lights are off and vice versa if also the rear lights come on when braking?

My legend had that when i first got it its a bad headlight switch i suggest going to the junkyard and pull a new one costs arounf $35 and install it problem solved i.e. bad terminal in switch
