No, the priest doesn't forgive sins, only God can do that. The whole point of the confession in Catholicism is that the people have to confess their sins to the priest and the priest tells them what to do to be forgiven but ultimately God does the forgiving. That's the Catholic perspective.

But in all truth you don't need to go to confession to be forgiven. Jesus died for our sins and paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we are already forgiven.

If you sin you have the ability to talk to God and tell him what you did and He'll forgive you. You don't have to go to confession to be forgiven; it's just something Catholics do.

The same way all men are to confess... to the Father in heaven, through Jesus Christ our: "... great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God... for we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb.4:14-16)

Roman Catholic Answer

Priests confess their sins the same way as everyone else. Due to their schedule, they don't usually get in a confession line, however, they make an appointment with their confessor or spiritual director and so usually have confession in their confessor's office, perhaps in the confessional, depending on what is convenient.

No church can forgive sin. No vicar, priest or whoever can forgive sin unless that sin was committed against that person. When one sins against God then only He can forgive.

How many essential part of confession?

There are three essential parts to the sacrament of confession in the Catholic Church: contrition (sincere sorrow for sin), confession (telling one's sins to a priest), and satisfaction (performing the penance prescribed by the priest).

Why must you confess your sins by mouth?

Roman Catholic answerThe priest is sitting in for God. God has provided you a priest so that he may hear your confession, and judge you. Then the priest imparts God's absolution to you. He must actually hear, in person, your sins in order to forgive them. If you do not articulate all of your sins, then none of them are forgiven and you have committed the sin of sacrilege on top of it!

What sins are you required to tell the priest?

We are required to tell every mortal sin we are aware of in order for the Confession to be valid.

What are used in Reconcilliation?

Reconciliation is more commonly known as confession. In confession, you speak to God through the priest and basically admit that you committed a certain sin. God then gives you penance through the priest. After this is done, the holy spirit comes upon you and you are cleansed of your sin. You can buy this app from the app store (confession: A roman catholic app) if you want to have a more in-depth walk through and an aide for confession. The app is 1.99 but it is worth it.

Which sins can a priest not absolve in confession?

Only one, which is to swear against the Holy Spirit.Roman Catholic AnswerThe only sins a priest is incapable giving God's forgiveness for are those sins for which you are not genuinely sorry and intend to not do again. The priest is only God's instrument, and God can forgive any sin that you repent of. He can't forgive sins that you don't repent of because you are not asking Him for forgiveness and that is the prerequisite He requires of you. This "not truly repenting of a sin" is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit because by not repenting of the sin you are saying that God can not forgive you.

Does a Catholic have to confess to a priest before communion?

If a Catholic has committed a mortal sin, then he must confess this sin to a priest in the Sacrament of Confession before he can receive Communion. If he has committed only venial sins, then he is free to receive Communion without going to Confession, and his reception of Communion will actually result in the forgiveness of those venial sins.

In a Catholic church were do you go if you sin?

How does conffesio help you?

Confession directly to God helps you but confession to a catholic priest or whatever the catholics practice does not help you. God made it so that we could come to Him with our sins and ask for forgiveness and if we are really sorry about what we have done, He will forgive us. God also made it possible for us to come to Him directly with our prayers, to ask for things. When we ask or confess things to a priest, we are leaving out God, who is the ONLY one who can actually help and forgive us.
