Just as Moses sent two spies, Joshua and Caleb, to the Promised Land, so Joshua sent two spies to Jericho. There is strong evidence that Joshua was originally a sun-god, before being depicted as a founder of Israel. Some say, from analysing the biblical evidence, that Moses was also originally a sun-god for the very early Hebrew people.
