In the basement under the concrete slab water is rising up from a makeshift hole and the kitchen sink is backed upthe water is dark and is full of sediment.how do i find the leak and how do i fix it?

It sounds like a collapsed pipe. The makeshift hole sounds like an old repair. You may need to replace the line. There are some companies that may be able to run a push rod camera in the line to find the damage. First however try using a cutter snake to clear the line so the camera can see the damage.
