The San Francisco Zoo had a tiger escape its enclosure on Christmas Day 2007; three young men were viewing the tiger--some say harassing and taunting it--when the tiger leaped over what was later deemed to be a fence that was too low by official zoo inspectors (it has since been replaced with secure Fencing of regulation height). One of the young men was killed, the other two escaped and the tiger wandered over to the cafe, terrorizing people. Response was very slow; the tiger was eventually shot--don't remember if it was with bullets or tranquilizer darts.
