The river Ganges is important to the followers of Hinduism. It is believed that the river was brought down to earth through the matted locks of Lord Shiva on the request of Bagheeratha. This was done so that Bagheeratha could do the rites that was required to free the souls of his ancesters.

It is to be believe that if you bath in river Ganga then all of your sins and bad evils can be washed away. And for the same reason every year there is a fate organized on river ganga known as KUMBH MELA and in which over 5 million Hindu take part and take bath at its bank in a period of month every day 100 thousad of people come to HARIDWAR the holiest city in India and where kumbh mela take place.

Ganga is also important for Indian as it nourish allmost 40% of total population of India
