it's only similar because of some select words that the spanish left behind in Philippines, the pronunciation of tagalog however berely resembles spanish, tagalog uses more "softer" pronunciation of a lot of sounds, that in spanish are more clearer or stressed more.

for English speaker they might sound similar or same. but for a spanish speaker they are hardly similar at all.
