The first Jewish American to hold a position in the president's cabinet is Juda P. Benjamn of the Confederate States of America 1861-1865. He served a the Secretary of State. Prior to that he had been the Attorney General and Secretary of War in Jefferson Davis' cabinet. He was among the few cabinet members in US history to serve in three cabinet positions within a four year span.
