north and north east
To travel from the south pole to Arizona, you must head out toward the north.
This is not difficult at all, since when leaving the south pole, there are no other
directions except north.
If you are standing on the south pole, then it makes no difference which way
you turn before you step off of it. As you step off, you're taking a step north.
North is the direction in which you would be headed in.
