Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, situated in the Lake District national park, Cumbria. It would be very difficult to make a living on the mountain, but the surrounding area has a few small farms raising sheep, as well as a few hotels and guest houses which would pay a living wage catering for the tourists and hill walkers.

In such a relatively small area as the English Lake District, Scafell Pike is indeed close to Wast Water. There are several paths that cross over the lakeland fell (hills) that would allow a walker to pass between the two, in a shorter mileage (but not shorter in time) that driving round by car.
