Many fabrics are manufactured of thread that is blended with polyester to prevent and/or reduce shrinking and wrinkling. However, this is not something you can add to or that you can treat your existing fabrics with to prevent shrinking.
The foremost active ingredient in fabric softener is a chemical called quatenary ammonium compound. In most average fabric softeners, this compound is dialkyl ester ammonium chloride.
It depends on the color and fabric of the shirt. Check the tag in the neck of the t-shirt for specific washing instructions. Always wash your t-shirt with other items of the same color and fabric to prevent discoloration or fading. When fabric is pre-shrunk, the consumer can have greater confidence that the fit they can test in the store is the same fit they will experience after they wash a garment. Prior to pre-shrinking, cotton and other shrinking fabrics required a consumer to guess as to how much larger the garment should fit at the store, to be a good fit after laundering
Cover the edge of the pie with foil.
Wash them in cool or cold water and don't use a dryer to dry them.
To prevent tights from shrinking, simply hand-wash them and hang them to dry.
