Victoria became Queen of Great Britain at the age of 18 in 1837. Strictly speaking I would say 1834 is Regency. The king was William IV, who succeeded King George IV in 1830, who had been the Prince Regent from 1811-20. === === The 1830s were a transition period and can't easily be classified. Moreover, it would be a mistake to think that there were sudden changes in 1837. The Victorian period started around 1840. By 1850 at the latest the middle classes had firmly established their hold on British society. There was a peaceful, but often bitter power struggle between the middle classes and the aristocracy from the time of Parliamentary Reform (1832) till the repeal of the Corn Laws (1846).
