Who was Malcolm Gilmary he lived during the 1800's?

Been watching National Treasure? He either didn't exist, or was
no one of import. He wasn't a Chinese puzzle box builder, and he
didn't build the Queen Victoria Desk or the Resolute Desk. The HMS
Resolute was decommissioned in 1879, so Gilmary couldn't have built
the desk in 1876. The Resolute Desk doesn't have a twin, the Queen
Victoria Desk is smaller and has been in the Bedford Whaling Museum
in Boston since 1983. It is NOT in Buckingham Palace.

Is there is resolute desk in the oval office?

Yes, there is a Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. It came from
the timbers of the British ship HMS RESOLUTE, abandoned in the
Arctic in the 1850's, salvaged, and returned to Britain by the US
Congress. Queen Victoria sent the desk to President Hayes as a
token of friendship and this started the Special Relationship
between the USA and Britain. A good book that covers the story is
"HMS Resolute" by Elizabeth Matthews.

Did the two Resolute desks have a code?

What do you mean by "a code"? The two desks were made of timbers
from HMS Resolute when she was decommissioned. One is in Buckingham
Palace and the other was presented to the United States and is in
the White House. All except three Presidents since 1879 have used
this desk, either in the Oval Office or in the President's private
study.

How many presidents have used the same desk?

Rutherford B. Hayes was the first to use the desk, called the
Resolute desk, a gift from Queen Victoria in 1880. It was built
from the timber of the British Arctic Exploration Ship, The
Resolute. Since then most of the presidents have sat at the
desk in various locations around the White House. It was first
moved to the Oval Office by Jackie Kennedy, when her husband was
president. When Kennedy was assassinated, Lyndon Johnson yielded
the desk to museum exhibits. President Jimmy Carter reinstated the
desk to the Oval Office, where -- except for a period in George
H.W. Bush's private office -- it has remained, ever since.
Many presidential libraries and some museum exhibits feature
exact replicas of the Resolute desk.

Does the resolute desk have secret compartments?

Sorry kids, there are no secret compartments in the real
Resolute Desk. There is a front panel that was added by President
F. D. Roosevelt to hide his leg braces and wheelchair. There is a
famous photo of Jon Jon Kennedy in it later. A good book about HMS
RESOLUTE, the ship the desk was made from, has been written by
Elizabeth Matthews - the historic notes at the back include the
history of the Resolute desk itself- but the whole story begins
with the ship and has such diverse characters as a sadistic
commander, Quaker abolitionists, intrepid Arctic explorers, a
pro-slavery senator, conniving politicians, an Irish sea captain's
wife and her headstrong daughter, and Yankee whalers! Although
there is a little room in the queens chamber

How do you know if the resolute twins are for a fact not any part in the fiction of the national treasure book of secrets movie?

Queen Victoria did have a writing table constructed from the
timbers of the HMS Resolute, which was kept for many years
in Buckingham Palace, is in fact a twin of the desk in
Washington.
It may be a twin, but it is not an identical twin. The writing
table is smaller, has a wood top and 4 legs. It is presently on
loan from Buckingham Palace to the Royal Naval Museum.
The Resolute Desk is a partners desk with two pedestals and a
top with 6 drawers.
In addition, there is another desk - a smaller ladies desk which
is in the Boston Whaling Museum. It was made for the widow of the
HMS Resolute's captain Grinell.
Furthermore, there is at least one small writing case that was
also made from the HMS Resolute timbers.
Pictures may be seen on the VictorianReplicas.com website.
