Tough call. Some cancers can be quite successfully treated with low risks of recurrence, while others er almost-certain death sentences. OTOH todays HIV medications can supress the condition for many years before it turns into AIDS. Then again once you've actually developed full-blown AIDS there isn't much hope left.

AIDS is a condition, not neccessarily a disease. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes a person to develop AIDS.

HIV attacks the part of the body that fights disease. Over time, if this infection is allowed to progress without medical treatment, a person is no longer able to fight off simple infections and can be at risk of dying.

Fortunately, many effective treatments for HIV have been created and are available in many countries. For some, however, care is not readily available. In the United States, HIV is classified as a "chronic" illness (like Diabetes) and is treatable for many years.

In some other countries where access to HIV specialty care is limited, people are still dying in great numbers as a result of their infection.
