AS she indeed did go where (No woman had gone before) she certainly qualified as both an Explorer and adventuress. For some reason she was snubbed by the Explorer"s Club (of New York) and they conspired to keep her out, the Ec at the time was all male and of course included such luminaries as Admiral Byrd, mr. Stefannson, the various Scandinavian polar explorers, Lincoln Ellsworth, etc.

ANS 2 No, she was not an explorer in the sense of discovering new places. She was a very enterprising aviatrix.
