Yes and no. When he became president in 2008, the US was still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, two wars begun under President Bush. One of Mr. Obama's campaign promises was to end US involvement in Iraq and bring most of the troops home, a promise that he kept. However, the US is still involved in Afghanistan, although there is a plan in place to end involvement there in 2014.
