In general it's a very safe place but don't be naive. Don't do silly things like walking on a secluded beach on your own at night. As long as you use common sense, you should be good. If in doubt about somewhere you are going, ask someone at your hotel or even a local if you want a second opinion. Obviously common sense comes into play here... don't ask the rasta sitting on the side of the road with a bottle of rum, checking you out. Just go with your gut and ask someone that you think would be appropriate. When in doubt... ask questions. Simple.
