Yes. Bharadwaja (Also spelled Bhardwaj or Bharadwaj or BharadvÄja) is a surname and gotra for people who are the descendants of Maharishi Bharadwaj.
The original Caste subtitle is BHARADWAJ
Bharadwaj Gotra means people who are the descendants of Rishi Bharadwaj. Rishi Bharadwaj was the son of sage Brihaspati. Sage Brihaspati was the son of Rishi Angiras. These 3 rishis are called the traya rishi of the Bharadwaj Gotra.in earlier days Sages were only Brahmins excepting Sage Vishwamitra. Also all the warrior brahmins became Kshatriyas later. Later all the business minded Kshatriyas became vaishyas. Hence there are people of all the three communities having a common Gotra especially Bhardwaj Gotra.Guru Dronacharya was the son of sage Bharadwaj. All the descendants of Bharadwaj Gotra display warrior skills because sage Bharadwaj married a Kshatriya woman called Suseela.According to Anuloma marraige, the offsprings who are born to a brahmin father and a kshatriya woman take the characteristics of Kshatriya though technically being a Brahmin.Hence the brahmin descandants of Bharadwaj Gotra are referred to as Brahma-Kshatriyas(Warrior Brahmins).
If the question is from a Brahmin or Kshatrya family then the answer is - Generally No. Because both appear to be belonging to the "bharadwaj" Gotra. However in special case if the girl is adopted & donated by his maternal uncle then it may be permissible. But if they belong to any other community it may not be a hurdle because rattan bhardwaj & awadh bhardwaj may be a different clan in those communities..
Vishal Bharadwaj composed the music for 'Maachis'.
Rajput/ Kshatriya & Brahmins both have almost similar Gotras & "Bhardwaj" is also one of them which is shared mostly by Baghel, Bais & Sisodias.Main Gotras: Vashista, Bharadvaja, Jamadagni, Gautama, Atri, Visvamitra, and Agastya.Later on Most commonly referred as : Atri, Bhardwaj, Garg, Gautam, Kaushik, Shandilya & Shrivats Gotras.
People of same 'gothras' marriage is not advised
No you cannot marry in same gotra. Its prohibited in vedas. And it also has a scientific reason yo marry in same gotra there will be a genetic disorder in offsprings.
Mayor Bhardwaj supports same-sex marriage and is a member of Mayors for the Freedom to Marry.
