If by self-centered the question mans "me first and I don't care about you", then the answer is no. Compassion, lovingkindness, shared joy are all part of the Buddhist way of life.
If self-centered means "each of us must find our own enlightenment without the need for or intervention of a god or gods" then yes it is self-centered. A Buddhist has the responsibility for his own fate.
