Dalton believed that atoms could not be divided into smaller pieces.

Because Dalton observed that different elements would only react with one another in very specific proportions (for example, two Hydrogens and one Oxygen per water molecule), he believed that each element could be distinguished by very specific atomic properties.

Dalton's model depicted atoms of each element as indestructible, indivisible particles that could not be broken down any further. He believed that different elements had particles of different sizes and masses, and that these differences accounted for the atomic behaviors he saw in his laboratory.

Although we now know that all atoms are instead made up of electrons, protons, and neutrons, Dalton's model was an important stepping-stone to our modern understanding of atomic structure.

  1. The atoms of a given element are different from those of any other element; the atoms of different elements can be distinguished from one another by their respective relative atomic weights.
  2. All atoms of a given element are identical.
  3. Atoms of one element can combine with atoms of other elements to form chemical compounds; a given compound always has the same relative numbers of types of atoms.
  4. Atoms cannot be created, divided into smaller particles, nor destroyed in the chemical process; a chemical reaction simply changes the way atoms are grouped together.
  5. Elements are made of tiny particles called atoms.
  6. Atoms combine in the ratio of small whole numbers to form compounds

No, he was not correct. We have the technology to break down an atom by slitting it, making it a smaller particle. This type of action takes place in the explosion of a nuclear bomb. Much like the one dropped on Hiroshima.

as far as chemistry is concerned, yes. but the physics of the particles & forces of the atomic nucleus contradicts Dalton.

Who gave us the term the atom?

Atom comes from atomic, meaning 'indivisible'. It was previously believed that an atom could not be divided into smaller pieces.

How has Dalton's model of the atom changed to todays model of the atom?

Matter is made up of atoms, atoms cannot be divided into smaller pieces, all the atoms of an element are exactly alike, and different elements are made of different kinds of atoms. The nucleus, electrons in the electron cloud is the today's model and the past model is matter divided into smaller pieces.

What fraction is bigger 7 Th's or 4 Th's?

4th's are bigger as something divided into only 4 pieces means the pieces are bigger, compared to something divided into 7 smaller pieces.

How did democritus answer the question could matter be divided into smaller and smaller pieces forever or was there a limit to the a pieces of matter could be divided?

Democritus' response was... There is a limit, if it is to remain in its original form. He concluded that matter can only be divided to its smallest particle... an atom, to retain it's physical characteristic.

What is used to divide Earth's history into smaller pieces of time?

Earth's history is divided into eras.

What is larger 750 billionths of a meter or 400 billionths of a meter?

When you divide anything into 750 pieces they will always be smaller than the same thing divided into 400 pieces .... so obviously divided by 400 is BIGGER than divided by 750.

Which has larger parts a four-inch square divided into fifths or a four-inch square divided into sixths?

The size of the whole thing doesn't matter. If you cut it into more pieces, then each piece has to be smaller. And if you cut it into fewer pieces, than the pieces are bigger.
