It is the capital city. It has lots of industry. It is on the east coast, where most of Ireland's population is. As the west has lower quality of land, it is harder to farm and to make a living on, so people tend to move away in search of better lifestyles, many going to Dublin. As it is on the east coast, it is nearer to Britain and other parts of Europe, so it is well placed for trading. It has the main sea port and airport in Ireland.

The greater Dublin area has a disproportionate amount of the population of Ireland, but it wouldn't be true to say that it is overpopulated. People come into the Dublin from their homes in the surrounding suburbs and large towns in its catchment area. The city itself wouldn't have a huge resident population. In the 1960s in particular a lot of development was done in the suburbs and people were moved from the city centre to these areas.
No. Ireland's population is however not evenly distributed. Some parts of Ireland, mainly in the east, have a high population, while many parts of the west are lowly populated.
