It depends. If you mean safer in a way that the police or some other people might read your messages, there both the same. Police tracks everyday texts and Facebook conversations. But if it isn't that bad (such as drugs) , I would choose texting. Police see hundreds of those related everyday and don't bother (MOST OF THE TIME)
Now if you mean private in a way of privacy, well, I would use Facebook IM (Instant Messaging)
