There never really was a 'JC Higgins Firearms.' That was a brand name used by Sears on guns that were made for them by various manufacturers such as High Standard, Savage and Winchester.
Might I suggest contacting 'High Standard'? Do a search for high standard firearms and get in touch with them.
They are currently owned by High Standard Mfg. Co. of Houston, TX, DBA Crusader Gun Co.
The High Standard Collector's Association would be a good start. Mr. John Stimson has collected information on various High Standard Firearms, and has a web page. The link below with take you to the rifle listing.
Jim Spacek has a book out that should fit the bill.
Npe- and they never did. JC Higgins was a brand used by Sears for guns mde by companies such as Winchester, Marlin, Savage, High Standard, etc. The guns were marked with the JC Higgins brand instead of the maker's brand. Sears changed the JC Higgins brand to Ted Williams, and in the 1980s, stopped selling firearms.
Take it to a firearms dealer. They may either buy it from you, or place it on consignment sale for you.

Look in The Blue Book of Gun Values, The Standard Catalog of Firearms, or Modern Guns. They should all be available at your local library. AHNH http://www.histandard.info/models/ http://www.histandard.info/manuals/
condition is key to value. Bore condition and if it works or not. Start at $40 and go to $300 or so. Depends on the market in your area. High standard made quality firearms. I own several.
