Best Answer

That's going to depend on what you consider "close".

The latitude of the southernmost point in Iraq is 29.00° North ... roughly the same latitude

as New Delhi (India), Jumla (Nepal), Nanchang (China), Hermosillo (Mexico), Bay City and

Uvalde (Texas), Ocala and New Smyrna Beach (Florida), Tiznit (Morocco), and Eilat (Israel).

That's about 2,000 miles north of the equator, and 32.2% of the distance from the

equator to the north pole. It's up to you to decide whether or not that's 'close'.
