Yes, Islam is against terrorism. Islam calls for peace (that is the very Arabic meaning of Islam), love, and harmony among all mankind regardless their faith, culture, color, gender, or the like.

Terrorism is a crime against humanity. Terrorism is an act of devil and all religions, including Islam, and holy books, including Quran, are against terrorism and condemn it. However, terrorists from all religions and culture are present from time to time and never called, through media or politicians, by their religion, rather called by their nationalities except if terrorists are Muslims. This confirms that Islamic terrorism is just a new term falsified by historians, media and politicians and propagated to go ahead with their plans of getting control of Muslim countries and to limit the growing number of people converting to Islam.

Islam is a religion that means "peace" and surrender to the only one God. In the Quran, the Holy Book of Islam, God commands believers to bring peace and security to mankind. " God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those who have not fought you about religion and have not driven you out of your homes. God loves just dealers."(Quran, chapter 60/ verse 8)

Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) used, in any military conflict, to prohibit soldiers from killing women, children, old people, or any civilian. He would advise them: {...Do not betray, do not be excessive, do not kill a newborn child.} And he also said: {Whoever has killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance is found for a span of forty years.}

Prophet Muhammad teaching is that murder considered as the second of the major sins (the first major sin is denying the oneness of God), and he even warned that on the Day of Judgment, {The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed.}

Muslims are encouraged to be kind and peaceful even to animals and are forbidden to hurt them. Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. On account of this, she was doomed to Hell. While she imprisoned it, she did not give the cat food or drink, nor did she free it to eat the insects of the earth.} He also said that a man gave a very thirsty dog a drink, so God forgave his sins for this action. The Prophet was asked, "Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?" He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.}

Additionally, while taking the life of an animal for food, Muslims are commanded to do so in a manner that causes the least amount of fright and suffering possible. The Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {When you slaughter an animal, do so in the best way. One should sharpen his knife to reduce the suffering of the animal.}

In light of these and other Islamic texts, the act of inciting terror in the hearts of defenseless civilians, the wholesale destruction of buildings and properties, the bombing and maiming of innocent men, women, and children are all forbidden and detestable acts according to Islam and the Muslims. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the vast majority have nothing to do with the violent events some have associated with Muslims. If an individual Muslim were to commit an act of terrorism, this person would be guilty of violating the laws of Islam.

There may be some confusion between Jihad (or struggle) which is licit in Islam under certain conditions and terrorism. Jihad means literally to struggle. One may struggle in many different ways: pay the bill, study for a test, raise a family, fight a war, etc.

Jihad can be either self Jihad or military jihad.

Self Jihad means self struggle to obey the Creator and avoid sins as well as acts yourself, your community, your religion, your family, your neighbours, etc.

Military jihad is licit only you fulfil the following conditions:

o - Fight only in self defense or against oppression

o - Never Kill Innocent People

o - Never Injure Prisoners of War

o - Never Kill Animals

o - Never Destroy Crops or Infrastructures

o - Never Mutilate Bodies of Enemies dead or alive

o - All Prisoners Should be Given Fair Treatment

o - Women & Children Should be Protected From Harm

o - Always Bury the Dead With Respect

If the above conditions are met, then military jihad is licit and justified.

The following points will make it clear, that far from being spread by the sword, it was the inherent force of truth, reason and logic that was responsible for the rapid spread of Islam.

Islam promotes peace. At the same time, Islam exhorts it followers to fight where there is oppression. The fight against oppression may, at times, require the use of force. In Islam force can only be used to promote peace and justice.

Indonesia is a country that has the maximum number of Muslims in the world. The majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. May one ask, 'Which Muslim army went to Indonesia and Malaysia?'

8. East Coast of Africa.

Similarly, Islam has spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. One may again ask, if Islam was spread by the sword, 'Which Muslim army went to the East Coast of Africa?'

9. Thomas Carlyle.

The famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book 'Heroes and Hero worship', refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: 'The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one. In one man's head alone. There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men. That he takes a sword and try to propagate with that, will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can.'

Even if someone treats you badly Islam teaches us to be forgiving. This misconception is linked to the media and bad actions of terrorists who claim to be Muslim. Islam forbids us to commit any horrid act. Don't be ignorant and listen to the media. If you want real proof and want to be educated regarding terrorism in Islam read the qur'an and you'll see that in the qur'an it strongly prohibits terrorism or extremism of any kind. A religion shouldn't be judged by its misguided followers. Do yourself a favor and don't be ignorant. Don't listen to the media. They only show extremists on tv who claim to be true representatives of Islamic faith, yet their not. They just make Islam look bad. If the media were to put a real practicing Muslim on tv, you'd be suprised. You'll find that it isn't the turbulent religion the media and ignorant people claim it to be. Islam derived from peaceful religions such as Christianity and judaism and it doesn't make sense for any one to claim that is encourages terrorism or any other type of violence. Unless of course the person claiming theses things is ignorant and doesn't know what their talking about because they've never took the time to educate themselves on the true meaning of Islam. Read the qur'an to acquire the real meaning instead of acquiring the false info from the media or senseless people. The Qur'an states that Allah (SWT) hates aggressors and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that moderate and kind behavior is the best behavior (not extremism).
