Mazda usa is partnered with ford. this makes more jobs for Americans. most mazdas in the us are built here or Canada and use some of the same parts as ford. i know the electrical system in my 3 is made by ford. if you look at the wire connectors under your hood you may find that some to most say "fomoco" (ford motor company). this also saves money for ford and Mazda. they don't have to ship the parts from Japan. the focus and 3 are pretty much the same car. just look different.
