Information on "How Stuff Works" indicates that Michigan receives 83 to 116 days of sunshine annually. The data is actually given in hours, which is more accurate, but I converted it to days to answer this question. The lower one third of the lower peninsula gets 100 to 116 days. The upper two thirds of the lower peninsula and the upper peninsula get 83 to 100 days. Michigan ranks lower than the majority of the states, but the southern portion of the lower peninsula ranks better than portions of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington (state), North Carolina, Kentucky, and Wisconsin and most or all of Ohio, Conneticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maine and New York. Michigan ranks below Florida, the Sunshine State, but not by much. Florida receives 100 to 133 days, but the southeastern portion of Florida, which includes Fort Lauderdale and Miami, have the same number of sunshine hours as does southern Michigan.
