Yes, Theban King Oedipus' search for knowledge as to his true origins ultimately does end up being successful. But he becomes distracted along the way. So he doesn't get the answers until decades after he begins his quest.

Specifically, as a young prince and heir, Oedipus hears a rumor that King Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth aren't his biological parents. He feels dissatisfied and even more confused when he tries to discuss the matter with them.

So he then tries to find the truth from the Delphic Oracle. But the Oracle doesn't answer the question and instead warns Oedipus of his fate to kill his father and marry his mother. What with the Horror that he feels over such an unenviable destiny, Oedipus forgets that his original search is for the identity of his parents.

So he forgets that he's questioning that he's the Corinthian monarchs' son. Instead, he runs away to Thebes. On the way, he kills an arrogant stranger whom he resembles and who's old enough to be his father. Once in Thebes, he marries the city's beautiful royal widow whom he may or may not resemble somewhat and who's old enough to be his mother.

Probably some 20 years after leaving Corinth to find his roots, Oedipus finds out in the worst of all possible ways the answers to his genealogical questions. The answers are chilling: his victim was his real father and sovereign, Theban King Laius; and his wife is his real mother, Theban Queen Jocasta.
