What is the difference between Photoshop and Photoshop elements?
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Elements share the ability to layer elements on top of each other in groups or just layers. Both allow the users the ability to create animation from layer placements. Unlike Photoshop Elements, Illustrator does not have the blending mode that always any layer underneath to be changed through tools like brightness and contrast.
Is there a program as good as adobe Photoshop and what is it?
NO. Photoshop is the best image editor. There are other very good ones but none out performs photoshop. In my opinion the best photoshop version for normal image editing is 7. The larger size and more cumbersom interface of the CS versions make them slower and harder to learn. Also photoshop 7 is more stable due to CS being way to complex. The limited Photoshop elements version is also very good and i have just recently switched from 7 to elements for most of my "professional" work due to its so fast and easy to use.

What is the best Photoshop for Graphic Design I've seen lots of versions and prices So which is the best one for someone who wants to try their hand at Graphic Design?
It depends on what you want to do. There are currently 4 versions of Photoshop: * Photoshop CS4 Extended * Photoshop CS4 * Photoshop Lightroom 2 * Photoshop 7 Elements (Mac version is 6) * Photoshop.com If you just want to "try your hand," at graphic design, then Photoshop CS4 Extended is a bit overkill for you needs. Photoshop Lightroom 2 is geared toward professional photographers, so that's not really what you would need either. That leaves Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop.com. Of those, Photoshop CS4 is going to be the most expensive, and the most powerful. Photoshop.com offers a basic online photo editor, and from what I can tell is free. Photoshop Elements is somewhere between CS4 and .com in terms of power. I'd recommend trying out Photoshop.com, and if that doesn't suit your needs, to try Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS4. Adobe provides free trials of both on their site.

There is only one Photoshop. There is a Photoshop Elements which is a scaled down version of Photoshop. There's a companion to Photoshop called Lightroom. Many of my friends like Lightroom but I've used it so little I can't comment intelligently for a beginner. You may want to check prices before you ask further. Photoshop and Lightroom are expensive. If you only want to enhance photographs Light room may be the better of the two for you. Photoshop also does graphic design and does preproduction preparation for printing like for magazines or books. Photoshop Elements is more reasonable. If you don't expect to get serious about photography and just want to improve snapshots Elements will likely do good enough for you and it's the cheapest choice.

Many people who can't afford or just don't need the power of Photoshop use Paint Shop Pro as it has many features similar to Photoshop. The main differences in programs are what they're for - some are primarily for images, some for images and artwork, and some are for artwork only. When researching, make sure you check what the program is for prior to buying it.
