Borneo's tallest peak, Kinabalu, which rises to 4000m/14,000', does experience snow falls on rare occasions. Contrary to what many believe, it does snow near the equator, on the highest peaks of various continents. Probably the best-known example is highlighted by Ernest Hemingway's short story "The Snows of Kilimanjaro." Papua New Guinea actually sports some impressive--yet rapidly melting--glaciers atop 3-mile-high Puncak Jaya.
