Indonesia is a tropical country located right on the equator. The greatest northern latitude is less than 6 degrees, and southern latitude is no greater than 9 degrees. This geographical position makes the country has tropical climate in general.

Although generally tropical, due to its altitude, there are some parts of Indonesia that has snow, such as Puncak Jaya (the Carstensz Pyramid) which is located in Indonesian part of Papua island. (The eastern half of Papua island belongs to Papua New Guinea).
