For someone who only knows English, Russian wouldn't be the easiest language because it means a completely knew language to learn. For someone who only speaks English the closest language is Scots but it is so close that some people do not count it as a distinct language so Frisian would be the easiest wholly distinct language for an English speaker to learn.
