The Watchtower has NEVER claimed that it is the channel for God. (Neither the magazine nor the legal entity used by Jehovah's Witnesses.) This question is clearly an attempt to distort the facts and sway opinions by taking a situation and twisting it to suit their purposes. The WTBTS has never been a member of the UN. It was an NGO which made use of the restricted library of the UN, but disassociated itself as an NGO when the requirements changed requiring NGO's to support the UN. There - two lies refuted in one post!

The spiritual successor of the LN is the UN. Both NGO's serve(d) similar purposes and both came after power shifts.

Jehovah's Witnesses were part of the UN as an NGO from 1992 until 2001 but since then they are no longer. Go to the United Nations website and type in watchtower' in the site search bar. See related link also. Jehovah's Witness' try to keep free from involvement in government entities and nationalistic pursuits and hence that is why it was so embarrassing when it was discovered they were an NGO of the UN.
The correct usage is "an NGO." The choice between "a" and "an" depends on the sound that follows it, not just the letter. In this case, "NGO" starts with a vowel sound (pronounced as "en-jee-oh"), so "an" is used before it. It's based on the pronunciation, not specifically the letter "N" in "NGO."
We were an NGO with the United Nations from 1992 until October 2001.“that the NGO share the ideals of the UN Charter;have a demonstrated interest in United Nations issues and a proven ability to reach target or specialized audiences, such as educators, media representatives, policy makers and the business community;have the commitment and means to conduct effective information programs about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets, organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; and enlisting cooperation of the media.”This was to gain access to the UN library but when it was pointed out in the Guardian newspaper 8th Oct 2001 we promptly ceased membership so as not to be a cause for stumbling. The Watchtower Society of Jehovah's Witnesses is a recognized non-profit organization.
