Are there real 1799 draped bust dollars? Yes. Are there fakes out there? Absolutely. And the 1799 dollar is one of the most faked coins out there. There are even some bust dollars dated 1799 that are made out of the same composition and have the exact same weight, thickness and diameter of genuine coins. Any bust dollar is a rare coin and worth getting authenticated by a reputable dealer or grading company and slabbed before you buy it. Personally, if I was going to spend $1,000+ on a coin, I wouldn't mind the $50 expense to have it authenticated and graded for peace of mind and for ease of reselling.

7-6-11>>> A Flowing Hair 1796 dollar is NOT authentic. That obverse design was only used in 1794 & 1795 but the Draped Bust obverse was also first issued in 1795. So a real 1796 should be a Draped Bust coin.
